It was Beaumont TM’s 4th time at Hotelympia, the UK’s most prestigious hospitality and food service event. The show was hosted at the ExCel, London. Everybody who is anybody in the hospitality industry made an appearance. From hotel directors, to small bar owners, and everyone in between.
Hotelympia 2018 added four brand-new shows to the usual line-up. More than 750 of the world’s leading hospitality industry product and service providers were represented at the exhibition. The formidable show covers every aspect of the industry – new products, profitability and efficiency ideas, key trends, training opportunities, building business relationships, and more.
Beaumont TM seized the opportunity to showcase new products. These exciting new products will soon be available online. You can have your own little Hotelympia moment at home! Below a sneak peak of what the show was all about. The next one will be hosted in 2020.
History of Hotelympia
The event was started in 1935, and 83 years later it is still at the forefront of the hospitality industry, challenging members to keep innovating and progressing. It was founded by Trade & Technical Exhibitions in association with the Hotel Review and Caterer & Hotelkeeper.
Originally it was marketed as a hotel, restaurant and catering exhibition. It was an instant hit, attracting 30 000 people over a six-day period. The Caterer & Hotelkeeper called it “the greatest exhibition in the history of catering”.
It was only in 1952 that the show got its official name, prompted by its regular location – Olympia, London. Across the years, the show had a few famous visitors. In 1988 Queen Elizabeth popped in, particularly enjoying the Salon Culinaire competitions. The next royal visit was in 1990, Princess Diana joined for the final of the School Meals Cook of the Year. Another memorable moment occurred at the 1992 show, with Gordon Ramsay winning the National Chef of the Year competition.
The 1994 the show moved to a new location, at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre. After being in the same spot for 59 years, the organisers anticipated possible confusion and scheduled busses between the two venues. Then in 2004 another move was required, with the show constantly growing in popularity. The ExCeL Centre, a state of the art exhibition centre, was an excellent choice. Its location is perfect – surrounded by good transport access, as well as new hotels plus restaurants in the area.
The Salon Culinaire competitions have been highly popular over the years. In 2016 an exciting new element was added to it, called the Skills Theatre. It is the perfect platform for students and apprentices to show off their skills.
Beaumont TM Dazzles at Hotelympia
The Beaumont TM team pulled out all the stops and almost the full range of products were on display. From the peg boards, and copper-plated barware, to the soda syphon, and the antique brass collection.
Beaumont TM transformed the exhibition stand into a life-size bar. Every inch of space was used to showcase all the amazing products. And the big showstopper, was the live cocktail mixing. Passer-by’s could not resist the free cocktails, investigating the Beaumont TM products to see where all the magic came from. Renowned professional UK bartenders, Tom Dyer and Jumbles St Pierre, prepared the delicious cocktails. They used ODK cocktail fruit purees and cocktail syrups to create the Raspberry Lemon Tree and the Pornstar Martini.
